Lingerie-loving Latina: Wendy Gonzalez

Mexican-American Wendy Gonzalez learned the ins and outs of the fashion business early; her dad was a manufacturer in downtown Los Angeles. But it was her mama who taught her about silk and lace, being demurely sexy, and all things pretty.

Armed with her dad’s keen business sense and her mom’s singular style, Wendy started Wendy Glez, a cheeky chic lingerie line, in 2001. With the aim of blending function with fashion, Wendy pioneered the “comfy loungewear” trend. “At that time, there were either overtly sexy or unflattering support bras. I knew there was a market for something that was pretty, luxury and totally wearable.”

Wendy was right, and she soon found a legion of fans for her gorgeous French lace camisoles that actually hold in those senos, including Halle Berry, Kate Hudson, Carmen Electra and Terri Hatcher. A big fan of vintage for its one-of-a-kind appeal and eco value, her line included sexy and wearable ’50s-inspired loungewear way before theMad Men” fashion craze. She recently sold part of her company to big-gun investors, proving she’s about as savvy about business as she is about bras. She now plans to invest in other companies to take her Wendy Glez spirit worldwide.

But Wendy’s success isn’t making her too big for her silk and chiffon britches. She is having tons of fun and sharing her daily inspirations with her huge audience via her new blog, Daily Fete.

Five Simple Ways to Organize Your Closet

Your closet is like a boutique, a place where you go shopping every day -- except it’s free. Every item should be easy to find, and it should inspire you -- after all, you added it to your wardrobe. Take some time this weekend to try these closet-transforming steps. You should be able to easily pull an ensemble together and love what you’re wearing.

1. Have a fashion show. Once a year, try on every piece of clothing that you own. Mend any missing buttons or hem folds that have come undone. Most important, let go of anything that has been stained, is worn out or no longer fits.

2. Add shelf dividers. Shirts, sweaters and jeans that are folded in stacks are likely to topple over or become an eyesore. Wooden dividers keep closet items in neat and easy-to-access piles.

3. Try a chalk dehumidifier. For closets that are damp or have poor ventilation, a dozen chalk sticks will do wonders. Tie the chalk in a bundle and hang it in the space. The natural desiccant properties absorb the moisture in the air and keep clothing dry.

4. Coordinated flat hangers. Find a flat hanger, which saves closet space, and buy as many as you need in the same color. When all of your clothing is hanging at the same eye-level, it is easier to store and sort through. Liberate hangers and space by putting away any out-of-season items.

5. Eliminate odors. Instead of throwing out the fabric softener sheets after drying the laundry, insert them between folded piles of t-shirts, underwear, and shoes. Since shoes tend to be the culprit of evil smells, let them air out before storing them inside your closet. Make sachets of rosemary, lavender or cedar -- which protects wools from moths -- to add a natural aromatic scent to the area.

Look Fabulous at the Office

Figuring out what to wear to the office every morning can be a time-consuming and frustrating rutina. But celebrity trainer Ana Cabán sees an opportunity to shine every day by putting together a look that accentuates your feminine and polished sides. Here, she doles out tips on makeup, hair and fashion that keep you looking both sexy and professional in la oficina.

Hair

For a clean and summery look, Cabán suggests adding a baby braid to your hairline. First part your hair with a horizontal line that runs down the middle, from the top of your forehead to your crown. Next, choose one section and start braiding from the horizontal line until you run out of hair. Finally, fasten the braid with a thin colored elastic. “Tuck the braid behind your ear and you’ll be ready to wow!”

Makeup

Remember, any makeup routine must be about enhancing your natural beauty. The trick is to boost your look by always keeping your eyelashes thick with mascara or a curler, your lips glossed and your cheeks blushed. “You will always look fabulosa!

Tops

“When it comes to sexy office fashion, it’s all about layers,” says Cabán. Choose sexy tops -- such as camisoles, silk tanks and ruffled sleeveless blouses -- that peek out of a jacket or thin cardigan. “Leave some mystery by giving just a little hint.”

Shoes

If demure is the name of the game in your office, why not make a statement with fabulous shoes? “Opt for a pop of color or an edgy style that shows off your personality -- without ruffling your boss’s feathers,” says Cabán. Peep-toe pumps or sandals with a high heel are appropriate and very “come-hither.”

Accessories

“Accessories are a great way to spunk up an otherwise simple or tired outfit,” says Cabán. A skinny belt that doubles around you will cinch that waist and add instant luster. It will not only pull your outfit together, but also show off your Latina curves. A chunky necklace also completes an office look when worn over a simple cotton-poplin dress.

How to Nail an Interview

When you’re trying to get hired, it all comes down to one thing: the interview. Follow the advice from these experts to land the job of your sueños.

Get Glammed
Wear makeup to accentuate your best features, but don’t overdo it, advises Barbara DesChamps, an image consultant in Nevada City, Calif. Apply foundation to even out skin tones. Use eyeliner, mascara and lipstick to define and complement your features. If your hair tends to get frizzy, get a blow-out the day before. A manicure is a must.

Dress to Impress
Even if you are applying for an entry-level administrative position, dress as if you want to be the CEO, advises Samantha Ettus, a personal branding expert in NYC. This means wearing a business suit and minimal -- but flattering -- jewelry. Complete your look with a pair of pumps.

Do Your Research
Research the employer, their products, their competition and their industry before your interview. After all, you want a career with this company, not just a regular 9 to 5.

Ace Your Interview
Before you meet your potential boss, pop a breath mint first. Shake hands firmly and smile. Highlight your previous achievements and illustrate how you can contribute to the company, suggests Ronald Kaufman, author Anatomy of Success.

Keep Your Cool
If you feel an attack of nervios coming on, gently fold your hands in your lap. Listen carefully to the interviewer and only answer the questions asked of you; don’t reveal personal information or give long-winded answers.

Your Personal Swimsuit Guide

Summer is here, but do not fear: From the sexiest one-pieces, to fun tankinis, to flattering (it’s true!) bikinis, we show you the cutest suits for every body type -- and how to rock your swimsuit with confidence.

Boyish Body: Look for suits with lots of embellishments, like ruffles and bold stripes that give the appearance of curves.

Old Navy’s ruffled bandeau top and bikini bottoms, in colors such as green and peach, are a great option. The tiered top makes your boobs look muy bigger, and the ruffled bottom adds hips to slim silhouettes.

Bigger on Bottom: It’s all about balancing your proportions. Remember that what the eye finds most pleasing is symmetry. To do this, you want to draw attention up top, minimize your culo, and show off (or create the appearance of) long legs. Bikinis or one-pieces with eye-catching tops and darker bottoms are winning combos for you, as they draw the attention away from the hips and create the illusion of more even proportions.

Victoria’s Secret Firm Control Plunge-front Halter One-piece has the double whammy of gorgeous color and a padded top to bring all eyes up, while the black bottoms shrink your bum!

Thick Waist: Don’t worry, mama, if you don't have six-pack abs. (Who does anyway?) To whittle that waist, look for suits that have diagonal lines or vibrant patterns around your waist, which draw in your midsection.

The Chic Trim Bandeau one-piece from Spanx elongates and slims the silhouette. Plus, it has an awesome shaping mesh liner that sucks you in -- and still allows you to breathe!
