Hot-for-the-Holidays Makeup: De Noche a Dia

It’s that festive (and frantic!) time of year, with a steady stream of invitations to

after-work cocktails and weekend holiday parties! But no need to stress; mamita and celeb makeup artist Tia Dantzler shares how to transition your makeup from day to night -- so you'll have plenty of besos under the mistletoe!

"The quickest way to transform your look from day to night is to apply bold, matte lip color,” says Dantzler. Deep Bordeaux lips are in this season. And you can't go wrong with cherry red. To get this glam look, apply your lip color with a small retractable brush to capture a precise finish. Plus, with a brush you can control the color by layering: The more you apply, the deeper shade you'll get.

An eye-catching manicure always makes fiestas Navideñas brighter, and Dantzler loves the new line of nail polishes that have glitter infused in them. She suggests painting just one nail glitter glam for pop effect.

Para los ojos, Dantzler loves the “wet look.” And there are many new lines of eye shadows that offer it. “Always start with a primer for a lasting effect,” says Dantzler. “Olive skin looks great in coral hues, so looks for shades in golden pinks and creamy peaches.”

"To bring extra sparkle to your face, try a highlighter on your cheeks, a little shimmer on the bridge of your nose, and a dash on the inner corner of your eye,” offers Dantzler. Also, infuse your skin with color by blending in a powder bronzer.

And for the final festive look, Dantzler says, “we should all wear fake eyelashes!" Some are adorned with highlight effects, such as silver pearl drops or Swarovski crystals. Dantzler also recommends individual lashes. “Just pop two or three on the ends of your eyelashes for an easy, sexy pick-me up!”

Belleza Trailblazer: Stephanie Flor

One look at Stephanie Flor’s schedule and it’s apparent that she is a mujer on the go. If the 25-year-old celebrity makeup artist isn’t en Nueva York, Los Angeles, or Miami, then she may be backstage at fashion weeks around the world or on photo shoots with the likes of Mariah Carey and Kathy Griffin. Her work has appeared in Latina, InStyle and Glamour, and she documents it all on her popular website, Around the World Beauty, where she dispenses everything from makeup tips to documentaries about beauty ideals across the globe.

Women with schedules half as hectic as Stephanie’s find it hard to stay healthy and fit -- so how does Stephanie do it all with her whirlwind schedule?

"It sounds clichéd, but it’s all about balance," says Flor. "I’m studying the Indian science of Ayurveda, which promotes balance in all aspects of life, from your beauty routine to your diet.”

Flor's diet is a healthy mix of her favorite comfort foods and healthy juices. And when it comes to staying in shape, Flor is enviably fit. She builds exercise time into her schedule by being "a multi-tasking fiend. I hit the gym three to four times a week, and I always do double-duty,” she says. “So if I'm on the stair climber, I'm also on my iPad reading about India or an exotic beauty ritual."

Fall’s Top Hairstyle Trends

Todo el año, the top red-carpet hair trends have expressed the same thing: Mujer Natural. With the Latin Grammys upon us, Las Fabulosas highlights the easy-to-wear estilos femininos we’re likely to see at the show.

POLISHED PONY

High, low or side -- this no-fuss, no-muss ’do is a snap to pull off even on a bad hair day. The key is to keep it neat and eliminate fly-aways. Prep your hair with a serum that controls frizz and adds shine. Use a flat brush to smoothly pull back your tresses into a ponytail. Finish with light, anti-humidity hairspray.

ROMANTIC BRAIDS & TWISTS

The beauty of a braided, coiled up-do is that precision is not required. In fact, the style looks best when a few hairs are out of place. Dry shampoos give your hair just enough texture to keep braids from slipping. Have some fun with this style and play around with different kinds of plaits (fishtail, French, small sections, large sections, and more). Or keep it simple and just twist sections of hair, then pin them into place in fanciful coils.

LOW-VOLUME

Low-volume hair is also low-maintenance hair, and what girl doesn’t love that? This sexy, unfussy look is all about keeping it natural and un-done. Prep strands with dry shampoo, work a bit of texturizing pomade into the ends with your fingers, and you’re ready to go.

ACCESSORIES & ADORNMENTS

The cascading gold stars adorning the coifs for Rodarte on the fall runway set the tone for this season’s decadently modern hair accessories. Bejeweled headbands, chunky barrettes, chic combs, and sparkling, oversize bobby pins…the sky’s the limit (as long as it’s not a scrunchie!). Anthropologie and France Luxe have tons of options.

Beauty Secrets of Jackie Gomez

Jackie Gomez may only be 29 years old, but she is already one of the most sought-after celebrity makeup artists in the industry. When she’s not working with Victoria's Secret Supermodels or Solange Knowles, she’s primping up another one of the prettiest faces in music, film and print.

Born into an artistic family, the Colombiana learned early to use makeup to express herself. “I was intrigued by how a woman could transform her face with lipstick and mascara,” says Gomez.

It was while working as a nanny for the children of a Sony Music Entertainment executive that she realized she had a future in makeup. “I gave my boss a friend’s demo CD and he asked me who had done her makeup for the cover. When I told him I had, he was so impressed. He referred me to assist the top makeup artists his label worked with,” she says.

By age 26, an agency signed her. Today, Gomez’s work also graces the pages of fashion magazines such as Allure and Elle Mexico. Then in 2010, she and her husband, a businessman, launched the beauty agency Top 5 Management.

According to Gomez, persistence and focus are the keys to becoming who you want to be. “You’re often met with people who doubt your talent, but confidence is very important,” she says. “When a celebrity I’m working on gets up from the chair without even looking into the mirror, I know I did a great job.”

Get It: El Look de Las Celebridades

You don’t need to spend a fortune or hire a team of professionals to get your favorite celeb’s signature style. Looking like a star is all about confidence and attitude ... and of course, great hair and makeup. Here are some tips to make your skin glow like JLo’s as you arch a perfectly sculpted brow à la Camilla Belle.

JLo’s Glow
No matter what’s going on in her personal life, Jennifer Lopez always looks effortlessly radiant. The key to achieving her fabulous glow is a pared-down makeup palette and lots of shimmery highlights. Think luminous drama and lots of metallics. Go for gold, silver or neutral eye shadows and a soft nude lip color. Complete your look with an all-over luminizer to infuse your skin with a golden sheen.

Nicole’s Boho Glam
With her House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate fashion and accessory lines, we all have a backstage pass to Nicole Richie’s luxurious -- but easygoing and incredibly wearable -- style. Her cool boho look is all about mastering the art of done/undone. Start with a romantic ’do with face-framing tendrils and create foolproof smoldering eyes. Look for a 2-in-1 smoky eye stick that can shade and line, and is smudge proof.

Sofia’s Sexy Cat Eye
Sofia Vergara oozes flirty sex-kitten appeal. You can bring out your inner vixen by using a liquid liner to create a subtle cat-eye. Add a few extra coats of volumizing mascara so everyone takes note when you bat your lashes. Choose a soft pink, glossy lip color if you’re feeling coquettish, or vamp it up with a rich crimson.

Eva’s Ladylike Sophistication
With strong features, a put-together ladylike style and sleek retro waves, Eva Mendes always exudes old-school Hollywood glamour with a thoroughly modern edge. To achieve Eva’s polished perfection, keep your hair in top condition with a deep-moisturizing treatment. Tame the flyaways and get great shine with a smoothing cream.

Camilla’s Killer Brows
Camilla Belle’s fresh, modern style -- bold, perfectly sculpted brows and red lips -- makes her a standout on any red carpet. With careful tweezing and a little strategic eyebrow pencil, you’ll be a standout too. Look for a brow-shaping kit that makes this a snap, even for the tweezing-challenged.
