Nurture your skin! “Skin will look dull in tone and texture when it’s not properly hydrated,” says Dr. Maritza Perez, a board-certified dermatologist based in New Canaan, Conn., and expert for Olay. “The outer layer of your skin contains a barrier, protecting it from the elements and preserving the moisture below.” Over time, that barrier can become dry, lessening the production of plumping agents like collagen and natural oils, which give us our healthy glow. To keep skin dewy:
1. Stay hydrated. Drink at least six glasses of water to replenish your skin’s moisture supply.
2. Maintain a good beauty routine. Choose a mild cleaning agent that doesn’t contain alcohol, and moisturize morning and night.
3. Protect yourself. The sun is your skin’s worst enemy. “Not only is it a carcinogen, but its rays will literally break down the barrier more and more as the years go by,” says Perez. Choose an SPF 30 sunscreen that contains titanium oxide and zinc, which are both effective at blocking the sun and excellent for sensitive skin.
4. Try peach blush or light bronzer. You’ll look bright and tanned, without the harsh impact of the sun.
