My family will be celebrating Father’s Day with a barbeque. Any tips on making it extra-special for Papi?

While a big gathering is a great way to celebrate all of the dads in a family on El Dia del Padre, getting the one-on-one time you want may prove to be difficult. But even at a large party, there are private moments you can steal alone with him. Here are three ways to make each minute count:

  • Be Papi’s helper. If he’s manning the grill, offer to help prepare the meal. If he’s not in charge of the cooking, refresh his beverage and stay attentive to his needs on this special day.
  • Give a good gift. Make a collage with photos of Papi over the years. Include mementos of his proudest moments or working at his favorite hobbies.
  • Craft a speech. Find a poem that expresses your appreciation, or write a toast to be read aloud. Make it personal by including an anecdote about a time when he made an ordinary moment special.
