Since I got promoted at work, I’ve been working extra hours to make things run smoothly. But somehow, my co-worker seems to be getting all the praise! How can I make myself shine?

Most of us can relate to being overlooked at the office. In fact, feeling invisible can be a major source of anxiety at the workplace. Try these tips to make your efforts count.

1. Avoid resentment. Let go of the anger you’re harboring toward your boss or colleague. “At the very least, don’t share or show it at the office,” says workplace expert Natalie Gahrmann. “You will not look like a team player.”

2. Toot your horn. “Too many of us have been programmed to believe that we shouldn’t,” says Gahrmann. “But how else will management know about our accomplishments, especially when there’s someone else stealing the limelight?”

3. Create a strong personal brand. Develop a positive reputation for yourself, and promote it within the company and outside through professional and trade associations. Leading presentations or panel discussions, submitting ideas and being quoted showcases your talents and contributions.
