I’ve been feeling down in the dumps lately. How can I rejuvenate in time for fall?

The summer doesn’t revolve around nonstop parties and beach time for everybody. If yours has been all about grueling deadlines and chasing after the kids, skip the end-of-summer barbecues and book a soulful getaway with a close comadre. Choose a laid-back destination like the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa in Albuquerque, N.M., where the rustic suites and the stunning view of the nearby Sandia Mountains inspire reflection.

Afterward, keep the spirit of your mini retreat by updating (or creating) a home shrine in a quiet corner. Be sure to include a photo from your trip, or any other items that bring you peace. Spend about 15 minutes a day sitting there; light a candle and think of all the things you are grateful for in your life. Keep a notebook to chart how your feelings change. Do you feel stronger? You may be surprised by what can be revealed in these precious silent moments.
